Shay J. Mergui is the founding member of MERGUI ATTORNEYS INC. He has been a member of the Quebec Bar Association since 2006. Me Mergui holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Law from the University of Ottawa and a bachelor’s in psychology from Concordia University.

Mainly focusing his practice in family litigation for over a decade, Me Mergui nonetheless has a diverse legal background with a wealth of experience in other fields of law such as Civil and Commercial Litigation.

Having a background in Psychology, Me Mergui has developed an approach in understanding his client’s views and prioritizing their needs in finding solutions. He always tries to be empathetic and look beyond the legal issues and ensure his clients have the information they need to make the best practical decision.

Furthermore, Me Mergui attempts to find cost-effective and timely solutions to his client’s problems. He has a long history of successful court cases, and has an equally long history of negotiating favourable settlements for his clients.

Moreover, Me Mergui has represented clients in front of first instance tribunals and appellate courts and practices in all of Quebec’s judicial districts. He has a very diverse client base ranging from individuals to major corporations.

Victoria Theoret began working at Mergui Attorneys in April 2022 as a Legal assistant.

Having been teaching for nearly eight years, Victoria has a developed a deep empathy for those around her, particularly families in need.

After obtaining a Masters in Educational Studies from Concordia, Victoria continued to teach, but wanted to develop other skills, and reach families in another way, so with the encouragement of those around her, she changed course and enrolled at Université de Montreal, obtaining her degree in 2020.

She always knew her area of interest was family law, as for her, it was the area of study with a tremendous amount of human connection.

Victoria prides herself in being a person that clients can reach out to, in order to meet their specific needs.

Yasmine joined the team in May 2022 as a law student after completing her law degree at Laval University. She is currently registered at the Quebec Bar School and where she will complete her internship at Mergui Avocats.

Before joining the team, Yasmine volunteered at a legal information clinic specialized in family law, confirming her interest in the practice. Her desire and passion to deliver equal justice to clients is driven by her intellectual curiosity and attention to detail.

Yasmine is fluent in English, French and Arabic.

Husni Al-Chaar, joined the firm as a student intern in October 2022, in his first semester in law school at 18 years old. After obtaining his French Baccalaureate, he decided to pursue his education at the University of Montreal in Law, due to his high interest towards the law, in order to learn more about the society we live in, the many cultures we encounter as well as his passion to help people access their rights and justice.

Husni has come to enjoy coming out of the theoretical world in school and applying what he ha learned practicing in the firm.

His participation in sports such as hockey and hobbies like reading, contribute towards his discipline as well as his orderliness.
